Phragmites
Invasive phragmites are detrimental to native organisms, robbing them of essential nutrients. The plants can grow between 7 and 15 feet tall, between July and September. The older a phragmite population is, the harder it is to control. Native phragmites grow around the same season, just for a shorter span of time. To the untrained eye, native phragmites can be mistaken for the invasive species, but they are smaller in size, and have a yellow hue to their leaves with red stems. Invasive phragmites have a green-blue tint to their leaves, and green stems. The photos to the right show the invasive phragmites.
