Why the Bag?

The Green Tier Reusable Canvas Bag was created as part of the Village of Egg Harbor’s broader effort to reduce single-use plastics and encourage more sustainable daily habits—starting with something as simple as your grocery run. As a Green Tier Legacy Community through the Wisconsin DNR, Egg Harbor is committed to leading by example, especially at public events and in everyday community life.

In 2024, our Green Tier Taskforce piloted water refill stations at major festivals to reduce bottled water waste and began exploring other visible ways to encourage change. The idea of a reusable bag was born as a practical, high-impact way for both residents and visitors to be part of the solution.

We partnered with the Women’s Empowerment Program at the Govardhan Eco Village, where each bag is hand-sewn by women participating in a holistic, 10-step program focused on economic independence, education, and wellness. The design features original artwork by Egg Harbor’s own Renee Schwaller, celebrating our local spirit while supporting global sustainability.
